Expanding the U-N-I-T-Y in Community

Hello All!

I know it's been a while but, the last few weeks have been a blur!

Expanding the U-N-I-T-Y in Community

On February 7, 2011, I set out to walk 50 miles, in all 50 states, in 50 weeks to promote Peace (in the manner featured in my book, "From Fear to Eternity: A Path to Peace"). What began as an effort to open minds to the possibility of Peace, became a lesson itself. Hearteningly, I discovered that our 50 states (at this writing, I have completed 45 and will begin the final leg on January 4)have the capacity to be much more connected than I had anticipated. Each town (I traversed hundreds) revealed a clear sense of community, identity and desire to support itself through connectivity. What struck me, however, was that this was the very concept I was trying to convey but, that it was often confined to the boundaries of community. So, what is preventing us from openly connecting? I believe the answer is Judgment. That is, we tend to identify ourselves within the context, or comfort, of our immediate surroundings and view those outside those perimeters as disconnected. The truth is, we are not. We are a world of individuals separated only by different perceptions. If we could expand our vision of the world to include all nations, we would consider how our actions have a local AND global effect. Through willingness and commitment, this simple change in perception, would instantly(particularly, during a polarizing election year)engage a higher consciousness and a support a "Path to Peace".
